Here I'll give you an update on all
battles I've played (NB: Only two
Battle (01/06/04) - 100pt
Will - Kord's Killers (CG)
Cleric of Kord (cmd 1) - 32pt,
Mialee, Elf Wizard - 6pt,
Chris - Evil Deliverance (LE)
Uthork the Vicious (cmd 5) - 34pt
Okay, so the warbands were pretty small, but Will had only gotten
one expansion pack and Chris only had one commander, but
anyway, on with the battle.
Both players advanced towards each other quickly. By round 2
Will had already moved his Catfolk and attempted to range
attack Goblin Skirmisher, but had missed. He'd also moved his Wolf
into the Magic Circle on the shrine terrain tile. Chris moved his
Wolf Skeleton to cover Goblin Skirmisher from the Catfolk's
range attack. Chris moved his Wolf Skeleton to melee
attack Catfolk but missed. Will's Cleric of Kord then attacked
Wolf Skeleton. It hit and killed Wolf Skeleton, then Will had his
Catfolk range attack Goblin Skirmisher. Unfortunately, he
rolled, a natural 1. Next, Chris range attacked Catfolk with his
Goblin Skirmisher, hit it and killed it. Graycloak Ranger
then used his range attack to kill Goblin Skirmisher. Will set
about trying to kill Chris' Urthok with the Greycloak's two
range attacks, but both missed. Mialee then moved up to Urthok
and dealed 5 damage with her one Magic Missile. Chris then moved
Urthok and placed where Graycloak Ranger could not range
attack him. Baaz Draconian then made a melee attack on
Cleric of Kord but missed. Wolf was then Out of Command of
Cleric of Kord and so only moved two squares.
5. Chris won Initiative and moved his Skeleton to Melee attack
Cleric of Kord. He rolled a natural 1. Baaz Draconian also
melee attacked Cleric of Kord and he too missed. Cleric of
Kord then made a melee attack on Skeleton and killed it.
Graycloak Ranger then made two range attacks on Baaz
Draconian. The first missed but the second hit, dealing 5 damage.
Wolf moved and melee attack Baaz Draconian, dealing a critical
hit and 10 damage. Baaz Draconian attempted a morale save but
failed and was forced to route. Urthok moved and used his
Hurling Charge and Cleric of Kord. His ranged attack missed
but the melee attack hit. Next round Chris had his Urthok
make his two melee attacks against the Cleric of Kord. Both hit and
dealt 20 damage in total, this would have been fine if his Baaz
Draconian had not just routed of the board! However, Cleric of
Kord was also forced to rout after failing it's morale save.
Graycloak Ranger made a range attack against Urthok the
Vicious (who was in melee cover) but missed. Cleric of Kord failed
it's command save and routed of the board, Wolf, meanwhile,
busied himself by making a melee attack against Urthok and
missing. Chris had Urthok attack Wolf twice. The first time was
a natural miss, but the second hit. The Wolf's morale save
failed and it routed. Mailee moved back a square and used
a Magic Weapon on Urthok. The Graycloak Ranger
made two ranged attacks too. One hit and dealt 5 damage but
the other didn't. Urthok moved into cover but the Ranger still
made two ranged attacks against him. The first hit and
dealt 5 damage, but the second missed. Meanwhile, the Wolf
routed off the board. Chris had Urthok charge Mialee. He hit
and killed it. Grayclock Ranger's melee attack against Urthok
failed. The following round Chris had Urthok make two
melee attacks against the Ranger. Both hit and forced the
Ranger down to half health. It failed it's morale save and routed.
Chris moved Urthok four squares. Meanwhile, Graycloak ranger
This match showed me that having one good creature in your
warband can make all the difference to a match. This is
shown in Urthok the Vicious, who was easily one of the strongest
characters on the board. I also noticed that making a high HP
opponent rout is easily the best way to win a match.
